Interactive White Boards in School
Interactive White Boards (IWB) open a new revolution for all schools. The fast improvement of new technology is always noticeable in our environment and now it has entered the schools. Some of them are already fully adjusted and others are still skeptical. The old fashioned blackboards have done their job consequently for many years, but now in times of media development something new had to come up.
By now every student knows how to work with a computer and how to access the internet. They do it from home, in school and even in public. Wherever they go, they are connected to some kind of media device. New media technology has become a partner for our everyday life.
School is for students a companion in their everyday life. Therefore is was necessary to keep up with reality and to change some basic teaching ideas. Teaching has to spread out and get away from a monotonous perspective of reading, writing and calculating. The society asks for a variety of new skills, students have to achieve while visiting school. Along this, media knowledge and the appropriate usage is a requirement for every school curriculum.
In order to implement new media knowledge in school, inventors thought of a tool where a teacher can do his/her normal teaching job by having the possibility to access media tools simultaneously. An IWB can do exactly these things. A teacher can write on a board and access the internet at the same time, he/she can play audio advices, upload text files, play videos and so on.
But why are still so many schools and teachers against this multifunctional tool?
A list of pros and cons might be able to illustrate this situation.

An IWB can be a great advantage in school once you know how to work with it and to use it as a benefit and not just because it is there. A lot of teachers prever to stick to their own teaching methods, which does not have to be a bad thing. Especially for older teachers it is hard to change their teaching methods from one day to the other. On the other hand they can have a great influence on the students because of their routine and ways to perceive students interests. A combination of both - modern teaching ideas with a touch of conservatism. Not everything that is new has to be good for everyone. It is a matter of taste and consideration of how far this can improve what I want to do.
